Psychiatric evaluation includes an in-depth assessment of your mental health with recommendations for treatment and further medical or psychiatric work-up if needed. Evaluations typically occur in a single 55-minute appointment, but depending on complexity, may require additional sessions in order to gain a deep understanding of you as a whole person.
By the end of the evaluation you'll have more insight into your mental health along with treatment recommendations including medications, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and other interventions.

As a psychiatrist with training in psychopharmacology, clinical neuroscience, and the human body as a whole, I’ve completed the highest level of training available to provide psychiatric care, particularly prescribing medications.
Medication management entails precise administration, monitoring and adjustment while considering the delicate balance of benefits versus risks. Medications can be highly beneficial in many cases, and can be particularly helpful when combined with other treatments such as psychotherapy, changes in lifestyle, and other interventions.
-
Psychotherapy can be applied broadly to a variety of mental health conditions. I draw on the theories of Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT), and psychodynamic psychotherapy. An advantage of seeing a psychiatrist is that both medications and psychotherapy can be provided at the same visit. I often recommend combining psychotherapy with medication management to help enhance self-awareness, strengthen resilience, set goals, cope with stress or grief and improve relationships. I believe the heart of good therapy is a strong therapeutic connection between client and therapist.
Areas of focus
I specialize in treating the issues outlined below, which my clients commonly seek care for. Many of these are best served by having a team of professionals to assist you on your road to better health. I am always eager to collaborate with your treatment team so you can get on with the flow of life.

In today's world there are increasing demands and distractions competing for your attention, making it challenging to distinguish between normal and when intervention is necessary. For individuals immersed in high-performance work environments, issues with focus can take center stage, detracting from your ability to achieve your fullest potential. By listening to your concerns with empathy, I can support you in navigating daily life with the confidence needed to reach your goals without feeling overwhelmed. Treatment options for attention issues are diverse due to the range of potential causes, including mood, sleep, stress, trauma, and injury. My approach is to provide personalized care that addresses the underlying causes while prioritizing both efficacy and safety.
-
Your mood profoundly influences your ability to find joy and meaning in your daily experiences. I understand the challenges of navigating through excessive worry, sadness, grief, lack of interest or motivation, and how these emotions can lead you to behave in ways that are out of character for you. Your mood is shaped by a complex interplay of factors, including stress, upbringing, habits, and individual biology. By carefully examining the factors contributing to changes in your mood, we can begin to chart a course toward reclaiming the life you desire. Treatment options for mood disorders may include medications, psychotherapy, and lifestyle adjustments such as stress management, prioritizing restful sleep, and incorporating mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation techniques.

Do you feel like your life has slipped out of your control, dominated by intrusive thoughts and unwelcome behaviors? Many who experience these symptoms can relate. My aim is to support you in reclaiming control of your life and leaving these symptoms behind for good. Intrusive thoughts often revolve around contamination or causing harm, leading many to feel compelled to alleviate them through excessive checking, counting, cleaning, or avoidance. Treatment for obsessions and compulsions involves building your tolerance to discomfort through gradual exposure, without overwhelming you. This may include techniques such as exposure-response prevention (ERP), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and medication options. In more severe cases, referral for interventional treatments such as deep-brain stimulation (DBS) may be appropriate.
-
Stress can stem from various sources such as work, finances, family, friends, and health. It not only impacts your mental well-being but also takes a toll on your physical health, affecting heart function, blood pressure, hormones, digestion, sexual function, and memory. While eliminating all stress is unrealistic, it should be addressed when it becomes overwhelming or leads to burnout. I can help you learn to reduce and manage stress, enabling you to live a fulfilling, healthy life. Techniques I employ include deep breathing exercises, meditation, biofeedback, visualization, and mindfulness practices inspired by yoga.
-
The quantity, quality, and regularity of your sleep are crucial for optimizing your health. Sleep struggles may involve difficulty falling or staying asleep (insomnia), as well as unwanted behaviors during sleep such as sleepwalking, sleep terrors, and restless legs. Additionally, breathing problems like sleep apnea and your circadian rhythm can impact your sleep quality. Treatments for sleep issues may include cognitive behavioral therapy specifically tailored for insomnia (CBT-i) and enhancing sleep hygiene, while also focusing on preventing injury and maintaining safety. In some cases, a referral for a sleep study (polysomnography) may be necessary, while short-term medication use may be appropriate in others.
-
Trauma, defined as deeply distressing experiences overwhelming your ability to cope, can arise from situations like actual or threatened death, serious injury, and sexual violence. Experiencing trauma is never normal or an expected part of life. Trauma can lead to intense negative beliefs about oneself and others, distort understanding of the traumatic event, result in hypervigilance, hyperarousal, intrusive memories, and flashbacks. My approach begins with building trust in a safe, comfortable environment to explore your experiences. Treatment often involves a combination of psychotherapy and medications, with consideration for lifestyle modifications.
Fees
I accept payment via credit card (Visa, Amex, MasterCard, and Discover). Payment is due in at the time of service. My rates include time spent outside of our appointments for administrative tasks, record and results review, documentation, and coverage between appointments.
All prospective clients are required to complete an initial evaluation with me to determine if we are a good fit for one another. Please see the descriptions below and my full list of policies for more information.
-
During your initial evaluation we will review your entire medical history, psychiatric history, medications, supplements, your lifestyle and any available labs, imaging, and prior documentation. If for some reason we are not a good fit for each other, I'll provide you with alternative sources of care you can pursue. This initial evaluation is typically completed in a single 55-minute appointment, but depending on complexity, may require additional sessions. Initial evaluations are conducted as consultations, without establishing a patient-doctor relationship, in order to determine if my practice can meet your clinical needs.
55-minute appointment: $400

After completing the initial evaluation, these sessions will be used to assess your level of symptom relief, adjust medications if necessary and address any significant side effects. As time permits, we will also discuss the various other factors influencing your road to wellness. As you initiate treatment these sessions typically occur every 4-6 weeks. As treatment progresses they may occur up to 3 or more months apart.
25-minute appointment: $225

After the initial evaluation, these sessions will be used to practice mindfulness, utilize mind-body practices, explore transference and counter-transference, and motivational interviewing along with other elements from CBT, ACT, and psychodynamic therapies as needed. Frequency of therapy can be adjusted based on your needs.

These sessions are used to assess both medications and conduct psychotherapy. More time may be spent conducting one or the other depending on your needs. While the combination of the these two services often works synergistically to enhance treatment, switching to follow-up for just one these services is always an option.
